Self-distribution has changed the face of the entertainment industry

Things change every week, every month, every year, every decade.  The same is true for the entertainment industry.  Technology has played a huge role in the changing of the entertainment industry.  Imagine what the music industry would be like if people still recorded their mix tapes on an actual mixed tape.  What would a producer do if a band showed up with a copy of their music on a cassette?  Better yet websites like www. Youtube.com, and www.skype.com allow artists to get their music in front of more listeners in minutes.  Without the recent advances in technology this would be impossible.  Many self-distribution companies have sprouted over the years and this also changes the industry.  Also many artists received stardom through self -distribution.  Justin Bieber was first seen by a manger on www.youtube.com , a video he uploaded himself.  New websites and technologies are arising making it easier for an artist to make and distribute music on their own.  Will publishing and distribution companies eventually go away?  Will it someday be totally up to the artists to produce and distribute their own music?  Five or ten years from now what technologies will be out that will better aide artists?  Will there be more self-publishing companies or will this convenient service go away all together?   As and artist it will be important to stay up to date with the latest changes in trends.  Just focusing on the entertainment industry itself is not enough.  Focusing on industries that directly affect the entertainment industry is vital. The information technology and internet sectors should be closely monitored by artists for new trends and products. Often times catching the trend before it hits momentum is the best time.

This youtube video is a short take on the changing of the music industry due to advances in technology.
